Who am I?
Danica|Nikki Rosengren (she|her) is a theatre maker, trauma-informed arts education specialist, arts integration consultant, playwright, teaching artist, facilitator, birthday party creator, storyteller, education director, and grant writer. But the one thing that connects all of her work: creating and supporting communities. She dedicates herself to fostering communication and connection, and spreading adventure, love and joy.
She moved to Hawai’i in February of 2019 to become the Arts Education Specialist at the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Since then, she has presented at numerous conferences and gatherings (including advocating for arts education in front of the State Legislature’s Budget and Finance Committee). She holds the role of creative director for immersive, site-specific gallery installations/theatre performances for neurodivergent young people at Capitol Modern, which then transforms into a multi-island touring production with Honolulu Theatre for Youth. She has worked with the Hawai’i Department of Education to develop puppetry and theatre-integrated health curriculum. Her interest in health education led her to start developing a micro-documentary series, LEAKED: The Period Stories, for which she was selected to be a Wāhine in Film Fellow through Hawai’i Women in Filmmaking. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern and her MFA in Theatre for Youth from Arizona State University. In addition to her work in the US and Hawai’i, she has traveled to Australia, the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Argentina, South Korea, Aotearoa New Zealand and Puerto Rico to research, present, and create performances.
Her parents and grandparents instilled in her a love of nature and traveling, which often influences the art she creates.
